Open Source...again

You will most likely see, over the course of time, more and more Open Source posts on my blog site. I happen to be very interested in Open Source programming/software and their may uses. Commercial software isnt alone anymore and you now have a choice in what to use for what ever project you have in mind. Research first, Google or Yahoo what it is you are interested in. Or, go to www.osalt.com to see if there are alternatives to whatever commercial program you think you need for your project. For example, if you need or want Adobe Photoshop, go to www.osalt.com and type in the search box that program. What will happen is you will get a link to that program, a description, and then 4 or 5 (depending on how popular the program is) choices for Open Source alternatives that are free to download. FREE TO DOWNLOAD!!! Photoshop is a couple, if not, a few hundred dollars alone.

I have a bunch of websites for a bunch of Open Source programs. My first suggestion is to visit www.osalt.com to search for what it is you need. If you cant find it, give me a buzz and I'll see what I can do. In the mean time, if you are interested, check out some of these links below. www.tonido.com - Its easier to have you go look, but this is a program you can use from your computer to share files, music, photos, etc to family and friends without having to use a third party server and giving out your important private information. Those of you who like to share with family who live far away, atleast look at this!

www.gimp.org - A Photoshop alternative that works and feels very similar to the commercial brand. But free!

www.getmiro.com - Free open source internet tv and video. (you still need the ability to get the internet tv or video yourself, you just dont need to buy any software. You just need to know where to go to get it, Miro does the rest. You can even capture Youtube video with this.)

www.songbirdnest.com - An awesome music file player. Addons like a browser has, Themes and color changeability, and it gives you FREE internet radio! Yes, Free stations from all over the world.

www.screamer-radio.com - This is a very simple but affective FREE internet radio program. You open it up, it has a BUNCH of different stations, and its a small box to begin with. Not much realistate is taken up when open. And it rocks! I use it!

http://synfig.org/Main_Page - This is a 2 and 3D art program just as good as the professional commercial programs out there.

www.ubuntu.com - Ok, this is HAWT! You say you dont like Windows operating systems? Well, how about a fully loaded FREE operating system that comes with IM programs, email programs, games, art programs (like GIMP), CD and DVD burning programs, etc. All for free. And it comes with Fire Fox Browser as well! I have it, I have it loaded as a program inside Windows so I can use it without having to wipe out my Windows System. Take a look!

www.openclipart.org - free clipart for those of you who do alot of projects and/or writing.

www.digsby.com - FREE IM + Email + social networks like MySpace and Facebook. All in one program. Also you can try out www.meebo.com same thing.

www.eclipsecrossword.com - a web based program that makes FREE crossword puzzles from the words you supply the program! Its great to make for kids! I used it for the Girl Scouts!

www.mixx.org - FREE Professional DJ software! You got to check it out!
